Strong Hearts Programs
Children from the Kore community are accepted into our Child Sponsorship program according to their need. Orphans, vulnerable children, and the most impoverished are sponsored first. Those selected for the program have 100% of expenses paid for their education, as well as nutritious food (sometimes their only food for the day), school uniforms, medical care, immunizations, school supplies, extracurricular activities and counseling.
Strong Hearts Hospice Care offers free palliative and end of life care for patients with any combination of cancer, tuberculosis and/or HIV/AIDS. It is only the second program of its kind in the country. We seek to improve the quality of life for patients and their families facing the problems associated with having a terminal illness. Our goal is to provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to relieve suffering. We offer services for early identification of symptoms and complete assessment throughout the disease process in order to provide pertinent education and resources.
Starting small and growing naturally, the Kid’s Learning centre has expanded from roughly 20 kids in December 2008 to over 300 kids currently accessing the various programs per month. From a single outreach program to over 15 innovative projects, the scope of the centre continues to grow. In 2009, we hosted the first year of our Kindergarten school. In September 2013, that school expanded to include Grade one Students, and in total educates 115 students towards a life of learning.
The Strong Hearts microfinance program fosters the development of locally owned businesses in the Kore community. Because of the extreme poverty in this area, many residents lack access to basic necessities such as basic nutrition and health care, schools, clean water, and in-house kitchens and toilets.
Family Care Center
Our Family Care Center provides a safe, nurturing place for children during the day so that their mothers are able to look for work. The center can care for 40 young children, from infant to age 3. They will receive proper nutrition, early childhood education and school supplies, as well as basic healthcare and hygiene education. Social support, counseling, education, vocational training, financial advice, parenting and life skills training will also be provided to their families. Our holistic approach to caring for children and their families will enable them to obtain the skills and opportunities necessary for a successful future.
